This definatly lives up to the cover. These stories are very.......very.......very...cute. And for those people that find Cute appealing this is probably the book of the year.
The art is almost in a retro style, reminding me of the manga's from the age of Uretsai Yatsura and other manga of that day. Though I am sure that it is a relatively new manga, the retro style seems to be coming back into play through alot of things. Though for me, I find the men a little too androgynous (if that is possible), so it is hard for me to think of this almost as a Shonen Ai story. I have to continually remind myself that this is indeed a man instead of a girl. While I am sure I am not the only one with this problem, I am sure there are tons of people who like this style and this is definatly the comic for them.
My only King, and all the other stories in this collection are frankly a giant cock tease. For those that like stories that are far more frustrating then sexual, this compilation is a wonderful collection of sexual tension, jealousy, awkwardness and social miscalculations. And have we mentioned very cute?
Though not for everyone, this game is a nice change of pace from the more serious natured manga that tend to take over the genre. It will give some people sugar shock to be sure , like this reviewer, but we are not ignorant to the market that it touches. This would probably make a great "gateway" book for people just getting into the genre's as it really isn't offensive in anyway, and the lack of sex is a good way for people that just want to stick a toe in the water then just jump right in.
Overall, this is a book great for the audience it is designed for and it nails its audience perfectly. For those of us that are used to the more violent hardcore plots with tension and turmoil it just might be a little sweet for your tastes.
