Review:

This is a very hard book to review, mostly becuase it humanizes what most people don't want to be human. In a time most people would rather forget happened, even though we cannot. There was alot of research done with this book, and that is something to be respected considering the subject mattter and the time periods.

This book is alot deeper then the first time you read it. Though that sounds odd, anyone that owns this book or looks through it needs to read it at least twice to get the subtle nuances that are hidden among it's pages. It's story is alot deeper then initially it lets on, and for the first reading you (if you are anything like this reviewer) will be focused on the subject matter more then the words hiding there. However, its worth that second read.

This book is a whirl of violence, sex, sexual desires and the unspoken wants that perhaps all of us have in the darker pits of our soul. Its twisted story lines seem simple, but yet they are not and they will drag and haunt you if you are not careful when you read it. It's almost poetic and though you want to make clear lines of good and bad in this tale, you cannot so perhaps it is better that there are no villans only different sides of a line.

The art is expressive and the hard lined style gives you perhaps an even harder push into the darkness that the book reflects. Each page is straight foreward and well done, leaving you looking at the artwork and the expressions in the characters. There is nothing lacking in the backgrounds when they are there, and you always know the scenes as the unfold. This book gives off a certain atmosphere and environment to show you what sort of world they were livng in with out pushing it too far in your face.

Only Words is something that make your spine tingle, especially those that take the events and the time period close to heart. It gives life to time that alot of people wish never happened and a different look at the people involved. It's worth the read but those that are skittish against sexual violence or darkness in general should avoid. However, if you want a solid read that has lovely art and a deeper look into the mindsets of us all, the "good" and the "bad", pick up a copy. You won't be disapointed.

Review:

I rarely go back and re-write reviews but as I was putting up books to send to my other reviewers most of them were easily put away and this one I almost kept, just becuase I liked it so. So I am re-reviewing this title to give it what it diserves.

Paintings of you, is sweet but yet sophisticated and deals with the souls of Artists no matter their format, and I have to say leaves you with that warm fuzzy long after you put the book down. For anyone that draws, or paints or photographs or anything of the sort, any one with an aritst's soul we should say, this book is a little deeper then most of what it appears on the surface. It is full of how to find love in both your art, and in others and is a sweet story that though isn't the first time it has been told, it is the first time it has been told like this.

The Art is clean and crisp and probably alot harsher and darker lines then most people that read the genre are used to, but it makes it highly expressive and unique to its form, giving it a stand out quality that will make you remeber it any time you see a picture from it. There are a decent amount of backgrounds when important and you will find that the pictures that you see at the end, the images are beautiful and I believe show alot of people that cartoonist and comic artists are real artists as well.

Paintings of you deals with social outcasts, medical conditions, and other things that alot of stories, though touch upon, this one dives in; giving you a uniqueness that you will take this book in a very human and warm way. It is something that even when you put it down you will remeber, and even when you are simply putting up books, you will find yourself reading again.
